AIMS Project - Discover Goa - Vavurla

Introduction

This village is situated on the hilly mountain at around 1600feet from ground and the total area of this village is 165 hecters .This village is at distance of around 5 km from Goandongri village panchayat. Villagers from Vavurla have to walk for an hour & a half to reach the bus stop which is in Goandongri village. This village comes under Canacona taluka. All the villagers in this area belong to the ST community.

Roads of the Village

This village initially had no roads , because of the difficulty and the hardships the villagers were facing they cut the trees and built the roads by themselves.

       

Dry Fields in the Summer

       

Vegetation of the Village

The main source of income of the village is mostly from paddy in rainy season and cashew nuts in the summer with a small crop of vegetables due to scarcity of water.

Lifestyle of the Village

Total number of population in this village is 250 , there are above, 30 houses in the village the strength of the children’s 60 and woman’s strength 42. Only two individuals have government employment, the remaining adults persons are employed as manual labour in the neighboring fields. As there is shortage of water in village during summer villagers prefer to do farming in rainy season. In summer season they bring water from nearest springs which is at the top of the hill and one has to fill the water in pots.

       

Balwadi/School of the Village

The village has an aganwadi with 10 students, the children from 1st to X go to Barse Village , which is on another hill. The children thus walk 3 to 4 Km daily one way to school. In the rainy season there are risk of reptile,snakes as also leaches.
