AIMS Project - Samruddhi - Farmers Empowerment

Introduction

AIMS with the sponsorship of NABARD organized an Exposure Visit of the Nabard farmers Club Members.

The “Exposure Visit of the Nabard farmers Club Members was held under the NABARD Capacity Building for Adoption of Technology (CAT) to the Dr.B.S. Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth, Dappolli in the Ratnagiri District & Regional Fruit Research Station, Vengurle of Maharashtra on the 28th to the 30th of April 2011.

It was attended by 25 farmers from 13 different NABARD Farmers Clubs from both the North and the South District of Goa. It proved to be very informative to the farmers as from the 13 farmers club our survey team had 10 successful stories. The major turning point of the visit was that farmers adopted certain techniques and practices which as per their records were new avenues of profit making business in agriculture.

Challenges Faced by Farmers

During our follow up visit all the farmers showed keen interest in continuing with agriculture. The farmers also were keen in learning the techniques using solar energy in agriculture The farmers showed keen interest to form their web sites to developing better marketing opportunities. Overall there were 10 successful stories, and if given more support there will be more successful stories.

Difficulties of farmers
Difficulties like availability of loan on time and market for their produce at a right price has been their major constraints.

The farmers wanted a market for their produce. The existing market does not give them a proper price for their produce.

Farmers have difficulties withs the bankers to avail loan for their farming. Most of the Government schemes do not reach the weak farmers. The farmers requested AIMS to present their request to NABARD on their urgent need to form a federation.

Farmers are interested in adopting new technology Like solar equipments used to generate free energy for day to day farming activities like watering the field, fencing, pumping water, specially for drying their produce like chille , Kokum, Cashew, Jack fruit seeds, etc.
